What is Jovi?
Jovi is a beauty industry marketplace app connecting cosmetology students, licensed beauty professionals, and salon owners - all in one place. Students can find gig opportunities and build their portfolios. Licensed pros can get booked for paid work and find their next chair. Owners can post open roles and hire verified talent. It's the first platform built specifically for how the beauty industry actually works.
Who is Jovi for?
Jovi is built for three groups:
- Future Pros - cosmetology, barbering, esthetics, and medical aesthetics students looking to build experience and portfolio work before licensure
- Licensed Pros - working beauty professionals looking for gig opportunities, booth rentals, suite leases, or their next career move
- Founders - salon owners, barbershop owners, medspa directors, and suite facility managers who need to hire and manage beauty talent
Where is Jovi available?
Jovi is launching in California first - starting in greater Los Angeles, San Diego, and the San Francisco Bay Area. We're expanding to additional states in 2027.
Is Jovi available now?
Jovi is currently in development. You can join the waitlist at thejoviapp.com to be among the first notified when we launch. iOS will be available first, followed by Android and web access.
Is Jovi free to use?
Yes. Jovi is free for everyone at launch - for students, licensed pros, and founders. We'll share information about any future plans well in advance.

Jovi is headquartered in Santa Clarita, California.
For Future Pros (Students)
Do I need a license to use Jovi as a student?
No. Jovi is specifically designed to include students who are still in school. You don't need a license to create a profile or apply to student-appropriate gigs like model calls, assistant roles, and portfolio-building opportunities.
What kinds of opportunities are available for students?
Student-friendly gigs include bridal model calls, editorial shoots, photo session assistance, community events, and shadowing opportunities with licensed pros. Opportunities are clearly labeled by experience level and whether a license is required.
How do I show I'm a real student?
During onboarding you'll enter your school name, program type, and expected graduation date. Your school enrollment isn't automatically verified in v1 - you simply enter your details honestly. Verified enrollment badges will be added in a future update.
Can I build a portfolio on Jovi?
Yes. Your Jovi profile includes a portfolio section where you can upload photos of your work. You can also link your Instagram, TikTok, or external portfolio site so founders and licensed pros can see your style before booking you.
What happens when I graduate and get licensed?
You can switch your profile from Future Pro to Licensed Pro from within the app. Your profile history and portfolio carry over - you don't start from zero.
For Licensed Pros
What kinds of gigs are on Jovi?
Gig types include booth rental opportunities, daily and weekly chair leases, suite rentals, commission-split arrangements, hybrid agreements, paid event gigs, editorial shoots, and assistant roles. You can filter by arrangement type, compensation, and distance from your location.
How does license verification work?
During onboarding you'll enter your license state and license number. Jovi submits this to the relevant state board for background verification. Verified pros receive a badge on their profile. Unverified pros can still use the platform - the badge is a trust signal, not a gate.
What states are supported for license verification?
California at launch. Additional states will be added as Jovi expands.
Can I apply to multiple gigs at once?
Yes. There's no cap on how many gigs you can apply to. Each application is tracked in your Applications tab so you always know where things stand.
How does the interview process work?
If a founder wants to move forward with your application, they'll offer specific time slots for a brief interview - all within the app. You pick a slot, confirm it, and both parties receive reminders. After the interview, each side gives a quick outcome confirmation. No ghost threads. No DM chaos.
Can I reach out to a founder directly?
Not through open chat in v1. All communication happens through structured messages within an active gig application. This protects both parties and keeps every conversation on record.
What if I withdraw an application?
You can withdraw at any time. There's a 30-day waiting period before you can re-apply to the same gig. This prevents application gaming and keeps the marketplace fair.
For Founders
What is a Founder on Jovi?
"Founder" is Jovi's term for salon owners, barbershop owners, medspa directors, and suite facility managers - anyone who posts opportunities and hires talent. It's not limited to business owners; if you manage a location and need to hire, Jovi is for you.
What can I post on Jovi?
You can post any kind of beauty industry opportunity: open chair and suite rentals, booth rental arrangements, commission-based roles, paid event gigs, assistant positions, or trial days. Each posting includes the arrangement type, compensation model, required experience, and location.
How do I find the right talent?
Applicants come to you. Your gig posts surface in the feeds of students and licensed pros who match your criteria. You review applications in your inbox, shortlist candidates, and move forward through the structured interview workflow - all without leaving the app.
Can I see a pro's portfolio before reaching out?
Yes. Every applicant profile includes their portfolio, social links, specialty tags, and (for licensed pros) their license verification status and certifications. You see all of this before deciding to move forward.
How does hiring work?
Jovi's interview workflow handles it: you offer available time slots, the pro picks one, you both confirm the outcome afterward. Once you've made your decision, you mark the applicant as hired or not selected. The workflow is designed to eliminate the no-show and ghosting problems that plague Facebook group hiring.
Can I manage multiple open roles at once?
Yes. Your Gigs dashboard shows all your active postings and the applicants for each. You can run parallel hiring threads - interviewing multiple candidates for the same or different roles simultaneously.
Can I post if my salon isn't yet open?
You can create an account and set up your profile. Gig posting for a location that isn't yet open isn't supported in v1 - all listings must represent active, available opportunities.
Privacy & Safety
Who can see my profile?
By default your profile is visible to other authenticated Jovi users. You can adjust your visibility settings in the app after launch. Your precise address (for salon owners) is never shown publicly - only your city and state appear on your profile.
How does Jovi handle my personal information?
Your data is stored securely in Google Cloud's Firestore infrastructure. Jovi does not sell your personal information. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
Is my license number visible to other users?
No. Your license number is used only for verification purposes and is never displayed on your profile. Other users see only your verification status (verified or unverified), not the number itself.
What if someone is behaving inappropriately?
You can report any user from within the app. Reports are reviewed by the Jovi team within 48 hours. You can also block users to prevent them from contacting you or viewing your profile.
Is Jovi safe for minors?
Jovi requires users to be at least 13 years old to create an account (per COPPA). Licensed Pro and Founder accounts require users to be 18 or older.
Technical
What devices does Jovi support?
iOS is the primary platform at launch (iOS 16 and above). Android and web access are planned for a later release.
Do I need to create an account?
Yes. Jovi requires an account to browse gigs or post opportunities. You can sign up with Apple, Google, phone number, or email.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. Account deletion is available from within the app settings. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile and data from Jovi.
